The Community Shield gave us a flavour of the battle for the top 4 positions at the summit of the Premier League and it left us wanting more. Chelsea will not relinquish their title easily, but could there be a new name on the trophy next May?
We’re all hoping it will be a little closer this time around with Chelsea winning at a canter last season. Both Manchester clubs have spent big in order to catch the Blues whilst Arsenal have a superb addition between the sticks. Petr Cech will bring some much needed assurances behind the defence. A back 4 that kept Chelsea at bay on Sunday.
It’s a tough call to make, I still have reservations about Man City’s defence and that their midfield can be overran if they are without Yaya Toure. They certainly have the firepower and the added creativity with Raheem Sterling but they still look vulnerable at the back. Manchester United have made some interesting additions and I fancy that Darmian will be an excellent signing, whilst another season under the belt for Daley Blind can only do him good. Angel Di Maria was a certified flop but most importantly David De Gea is still at the club.
There is something not quite right at Chelsea at the moment. They just haven’t been themselves lately in pre-season with Mourinho calling them ‘unprofessional’ and lambasting his team. I am prepared to be laughed at vigorously when he’s collecting his golden boot, but Falcao looks a poor addition and Costa’s notoriously temperamental hamstring worries me. Chelsea look too short a price and therefore too big a risk.
That leaves me with Arsenal. They still need another striker, but there is still time to add to the squad. They impressed me on Sunday and with less upheaval than previous years, I fancy them to win the title. Alexis Sanchez should come back fresh and raring to go after his extended break following his Copa America success. An injury free season from Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain could be the key for the Gunners and at the price, they could be the bet.
