Horse racing accumulator covering the action from The Curragh in Ireland on Saturday.
The meeting that takes centre stage today is at The Curragh, where Darley sponsor the Irish Oaks. A host of competitive events compliment the feature race well and we have a each-way accumulator for you here.
As you would imagine, Ballydoyle have a strong hand in this contest with Joseph O’Brien deciding to ride ST PATRICKS DAY (1/1 Coral), a lovely looking son of Fastnet Rock. This horse has crucial racecourse experience in the book having finished second at Naas, looking as if the run would do him good as have most of the stables juveniles this season. Assuming nominal improvement, he is clearly the one they all have to beat with his stablemates the most obvious dangers.
On to the second leg of my accumulator and it’s another O’Brien runner as I am convinced this seven furlongs is the ideal trip for DARWIN (11/8 bet365). Although this horse has won over six furlongs last time out the trip should suit and he looks a worthy favourite. He does have to give a lot of weight away which has to be a concern but he is the class act in the field and should prove close to impossible to keep out of the frame at the very least.
The highlight of the card has clearly been a target for Ballydoyle and, whilst they field a strong trio of runners, I will be opposing them with Luca Cumai’s filly – VOLUME (5/1 Betfred). For me, she seems to have been forgotten about after finishing third in the Oaks despite failing to handle the Epsom undulations. Lightly raced this season, and with room for further improvement, she seems sure to be well suited by both the track and the going, and at the odds is a solid each way option.
