Real Madrid v Bayern Munich Betting Tips and Predictions

It's semi finals time in the UEFA Champion's League and Wednesday night's first leg tie sees reigning champions Bayern Munich head to the Santiago Bernabeu to take on Real Madrid. Live on Sky Sports at 7:45 on April 23rd, here are some free football betting tips for you.

After winning their first set of silverware in the Copa Del Rey last week, Carlo Ancelotti's men will no doubt be thirsty more glory. Despite being under the cosh for most of the second half, Gareth Bale served up another reminder as to why he fetched such a hefty price tag summer. In truth, Barcelona were poor on the night but a lot of credit has to go to Real on two excellent breakaway goals and a fine defensive display. He might be prone to a catastrophic meltdown from time to time, but I genuinely believe Pepe would fly into a 50/50 with King Kong if it meant keeping a clean sheet.

Outside of the domestic cup, Real's league form has also been excellent. After two consecutive defeats at the end of March left their title ambitions in tatters, they responded by winning their next three games at an aggregate of 13-0. More important than the results, though, is the fact they did it all without Cristiano Ronaldo. With their star man deemed fit for the clash with Bayern, confidence will be sky high in the Spanish capital.

The holders head to Spain with their domestic title already sat in the trophy cabinet, however, form is not on their side. Complacency has certainly crept in with the German champions, and that aura of invincibility no longer surrounds them. Nonetheless, I would hardly call four points from their last four games a crisis. With nothing more to play for in the league and players desperate to avoid injury in a World Cup year, a lapse in performance is understandable.

Browsing the early prices there is very little to choose between the two sides. Marginal favourites on the night are Real Madrid at 7/5, with Bayern available at 2/1. However, it is the draw at 13/5 which appeals to my wallet the most. Based on semi finals from years gone, first legs are often cagey affairs. With the exception of last year's anomaly, you have to go back to 2008 and Chelsea's 1-3 away win at Liverpool to find a fist leg tie that has more than one goal separating the two sides. With this in mind, back the draw at 13/5 with Bet365.

Heading into the goal markets, with such a vast array of talent to choose from, a first goalscorer bet might be a little risky. With 14 goals in the competition already, Cristiano Ronaldo's anytime goalscorer odds are awful, and given his return from injury, his game-time may well be cut short as well. Although I'm heading a little deeper into the betting pool, Angel Di Maria has opened the scoring in his last two games and is well priced to score anytime at 6/1 with Coral. Back him to notch anytime in the match along with a Real Madrid goal in the last fifteen minutes at 2/1 with William Hill. This is comfortably the most frequent period for a goal in Real's matches this season.
