Wednesday sees a repeat of one of last year’s Champions League semi-finals as Real Madrid host Borussia Dortmund.

Last year the German’s blew Madrid away in the first leg with a 4-1 win and a 4-3 win on aggregate. This time around Madrid are at home first and will want to put themselves in a dominant position.

Dortmund aren’t the side they were last season as they got to the final but are still a very strong unit. In all competitions of late they have won just two of their last five, however they have won their last four away from home. They are currently second in Germany but Bayern have already secured the league title, the Champions League and German Cup remain their remaining silverware chances.

Real Madrid need to get back on track after their recent El Clasico defeat and the following defeat against Sevilla. They did beat Rayo here at the weekend and will want to put themselves in a dominant position. The defeat against Barca was just Real’s second of the season at home, the other coming against Atletico, they have won every other home match. Four home Champions League games have yielded four victories also.

Looking at the two sides in the Champions League this season is interesting, both teams have a good record – Real 7 wins and a draw and Dortmund 5 wins and 3 defeats. Both teams have scored in Madrid’s last three at home in this competition and six of their eight overall. Both teams have scored in six of Dortmund’s eight and all of their away games.

I expect Ancelotti’s pedigree in the competition to shine here and Madrid to take a first leg lead but Reus and co. will fancy a goal against a Madrid side with just three clean sheets in their last eight matches. Both teams to score and Real Madrid to win is available at 33/20 with Coral.

Watching Real Madrid in recent weeks, aside from Ronaldo, the man impressing has been Karim Benzema, he scord two against Barcelona and two against Schalke in the last round. With Ronaldo such a poor price generally, Benzema is worth a bet. He is 13/10 to score and win with Betfred and 5/1 to score first with Bet365, both certainly worth a bet.
