Real Madrid vs Borussia Dortmund Match Preview – The Lewandowski Show Part II

Tuesday evening at The Bernabéu sees Real Madrid attempt to progress to the final of the Champions League by overturning a 4-1 first-leg deficit against Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid start as 8/13 favourites to win the match, Borussia Dortmund can be backed at 17/4 whilst the draw is available at 18/5.  All odds quoted are with bet365.

Jose Mourinho faces the prospect of his side having to score three goals on home turf, and also prevent the Germans from finding the net in Spain if Real Madrid are to reach the Champions League final.  And from kick-off you would expect to see Madrid go for the jugular in an attempt to get the home crowd behind them.  Mourinho had the luxury of being able to rest most of his first-team regulars at the weekend and he will be hoping the fresh legs will make the difference against the Germans.

Borussia Dortmund look a cracking side and thoroughly deserved their 4-1 home victory in the first leg.  Star man Robert Lewandowski is likely to again be relied upon for the goalscoring threat, and it would be no surprise to see him get on the scoresheet once again.  If Borussia do score then they will almost certainly be heading for the final.  Dortmund are a side who have quietly slipped under the radar in this season’s competition, and they will travel to Spain looking to protect their healthy first-leg advantage and stretch their unbeaten run in the Champions League to 12 matches.

Having looked at the betting markets I have found it difficult to find a decent value bet in this match.  Goals look likely but the prices are not particularly attractive.  And given Dortmund’s first leg advantage they look likely to qualify, but 2/11 does not really appeal.  I do think Dortmund will score, perhaps more than one, and would expect Lewandowski to be amongst any goals his side score.  The price on him to score anytime is 5/4, which is reasonable, but far more tempting is the 7/1 available for him to score two or more goals, and that is my recommended bet.
