Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips:

2.30pm – Able Friend

What a start to the meeting, a Group 1 with six of the eight runner field rated 116+! Solow heads the market having won nine of his last 10 races. He looks the real deal in his races but in Able Friend he faces more of a natural miler. The Hong Kong raider is one of the most anticipated runners of the meeting and can kick it off perfectly.

3.05pm – Finnegan

The Coventry is a real test for juveniles at this stage of the season. It needs a hardy type to get their head in front and American raider Finnegan may be the call. Wesley Ward has made successful raids on this meeting in the past and this colt won in a very smart time when last seen.

3.40pm – Sole Power

It was heartwarming to see Eddie Lynam's sprinting star finally break his Dubai duck in March at the age of eight. He doesn't win with quite such regularity these days but a strong pace on decent ground at this trip remains perfect. Australian sprinters have taken home some big prizes over the years so Shamal Wind may be the biggest danger.

4.20pm – Gleneagles

It's unimaginative but Gleneagles should be a really tough nut to crack. A superb display in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket preceded an efficient win in the Irish 2000 at the Curragh when there would have been enough cut in the ground for him. Make Believe won the French equivalent when getting the run of the race but like most French raiders has to prove he's as effective on quicker ground.

5.00pm – Digeanta E/W

Willie Mullins charge has always looked as if a brutal test of stamina would suit him. He was 5th in the Cesarewitch when last seen on these shores, keeping on well all the way to the line. This is the furthest he has tried on the flat and that could bring out some more improvement from this lightly raced eight year old.

5.35pm – Areen E/W

This looks incredibly tricky so a chance is taken on Areen at a decent price. He showed a lot of greenness at Sandown last time when behind the re-opposing Steady Pace. Areen probably lost as much at the start that day as he was beaten by the Godolphin runner yet is double the price now, this big priced bet rounds off our Royal Ascot day 1 tips.

Recommended Offer – Get a risk free 5/1 on Gleneagles to win the 4.20pm race, the real odds are 1/2 but we have got you the chance to win £60 risk free.
