Horse racing betting tips for the 4.25pm Gold Cup on Day 3 of Royal Ascot.

The Gold Cup is the feature race of the thrilling five day Royal Ascot festival.  The gruelling 2m4f trip will throughly test the stamina of the 15 horses that line-up.  It has been won by the likes of Yeats and Royal Rebel in the past and by Estimate in last year’s renewal.

The aforementioned Estimate (8/1 Betfred) looks to defend her title here and she has decent enough claims.  This horse clearly loves Ascot and her record at the track is somewhat breath-taking, boasting a 75% strike-rate at the course.  Nonetheless, she is yet to have a run this season and she claimed last year’s renewal with a prep-run under her belt to brush the cobwebs away.  Her trainer Sir Michael Stoute is a master when it comes to getting horses ready for their first run and Estimate did win first time out last year.  Nonetheless this looks a competitive field and she could struggle against some of her race fit rivals.

Aidan O’Brien certainly knows how to win this race, after training the likes of  Yeats and Fame And Glory.  He is represented this year by last season’s St. Leger winner – LEADING LIGHT (11/8 SkyBet).  Aside from that result, his performance last season at Royal Ascot was particularly impressive winning the Queen’s Vase fairly easily.  This horse boasts an outstanding pedigree, by Montjeu out of Dance Parade and looks to have everything in his favour.  He made his seasonal reappearance at Navan when he won the Coolmore Vintage Crop Stakes, beating Royal Diamond by three lengths, and although this is a tougher contest, he should prove a worthy favourite.

Another horse I’ve been impressed with this season is Brown Panther (7/1 Ladbrokes).  He looks to be a progressive individual who is finally starting to show his true potential.  This race has always been the plan and has certainly had the ideal preparation for it.  He made his reappearance at Chester in the Diamond Ormonde Stakes, easily beating the handy Hillstar.  He then stepped-up on that effort at Sandown and again cruised to victory.  He is definitely in with an each-way shout as he has Ascot form and should handle the trip.

Last year’s runner-up Simenon (20/1 bet365) lines up once again.  This horse has been campaigned all over the globe having raced in Australia, Hong Kong and Dubai.  Willie Mullins’ charge is a great hardy horse, but his travelling could well takes its toll and this test demands a marked improvement on his recent form.

Tac De Boistron (9/1 SkyBet) claimed the Sagaro Stakes on his seasonal reappearance and then went to battle Gospel Choir to a neck next time out at York.  This step up in trip will be thoroughly appreciated and Marco Botti is in good form at the minute.  Yet, softer ground has brought out the best of this seven year-olds form and the drying conditions are considerable negative.

Another feature race and, unsurprisingly, another strong market favourite being tipped.  LEADING LIGHT ticks all the boxes – pedigree, the right trainer, strong Ascot form and should continue the trend of well-fancied favourites winning this week.  If you want some value, a straight forecast with Brown Panther could be a good bet, however Aidan O’Brien’s colt looks the likeliest winner.
