Royal Ascot Day 1 Tips – St James’ Palace Stakes Betting Tips

Royal Ascot day 1 tips for the St James’ Palace Stakes due off at 4.25pm on Tuesday 16th June 2015 from our expert horse racing tipster.

The St. James' Palace Stakes is a superb contest for three-year-old's raced over one mile on day 1 of Royal Ascot 2015. In the past, top milers such as Giant's Causeway, Canford Cliffs, the mighty Frankel and last year Kingman have all won the race and all have went on to achieve immortal status.

This year's ante post favourite is GLENEAGLES who certainly looks to have leading claims. Aidan O'Brien's charge was crowned champion two-year-old last season for wins in the Group 1 National Stakes at the Curragh and was first past the post at Longchamp in the Group 1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc day before being demoted to third. The three-year-old has certainly trained on and has looked a different class to his rivals in his two starts this year.

Connections opted to miss a prep run prior to the 2000 Guineas which was doubted by some, however, it proved the right move. Under a confident ride by Ryan Moore, the son of Galileo was an easy winner of the Newmarket classic, dismissing his rivals with such elegance and ease to cruise to a two-and-a-half length victory. He then franked that form in the Irish 2000 Guineas three weeks later, albeit in different style. Everything went wrong for Gleneagles that day at the Curragh; he was trapped against the rail and had little room to manoeuvre out when the pace ahead increased. However, he soon showed his class and won the contest by three-quarters of a length, going away from runner-up, Endless Drama at the finishing post. That was on good-to-yielding ground that day and a firm surface at Ascot should suit much better.

French 2000 Guineas winner Make Believe also enters the contest and Andre Fabre won't be crossing the English Channel to play second fiddle in the St James’ Palace Stakes on day 1 of Royal Ascot 2015. After finishing second in a Group 3 on seasonal reappearance in April, the son of Makfi certainly benefited from blowing the cobwebs out and was significantly backed in for the French classic. He was an impressive winner at Longchamp, with second New Bay franking the form by romping to victory in the French Derby. However, the trip was likely on the sharp side for the likes of New Bay and Highland Reel who finished runner-up in the French Derby and Make Believe will be contesting against true one mile horses and could find the pace too hot to handle.

Territories also arrives from France for Fabre and will be looking to avenge his two loses to Gleneagles already. The son of Invincible Spirit was an easy victor on his first start of the year at Longchamp in April, however, there were no excuses for his loss in the 2000 Guineas and there seems no reason by the form will be reversed.

Sir Michael Stoute will be hoping to spoil the Ballydoyle party with his charge Consort in the St James’ Palace Stakes 2015. He was quietly fancied for the 2000 Guineas after an impressive win on debut at Newmarket last year, however, lost a race against time to be prepared for the first classic of the year after suffering from injury problems. Nonetheless, he still has plenty of class and romped to victory in a Listed contest at Sandown on seasonal reappearance and should come on leaps and bounds from that effort. However, this is a significant step up in class and Consort will have to improve a vast amount if he is to contend.

It looks a decent renewal of the St James' Palace Stakes, but, Gleneagles is certainly the one to beat and he is our St James’ Palace Stakes betting tip. He's looked in a different class in his two wins in the English and Irish 2000 Guineas and should improve once again.
