Prince of Wales Stakes Betting Tips:
Free Eagle is the current ante-post favourite for the contest and the lightly-raced four-year-old will be hoping to finally fulfil his early potential. Dermot Weld's charge was an impressive winner of debut as a two-year-old and was gunned down by Australia next time out, who certainly franked the form by winning the Epsom Derby and the Juddmonte International at York. Free Eagle's classic campaign was largely interrupted by injury last year and didn't make his reappearance until September. However, that made no difference to his performance as he cruised to victory in the Group 3 Enterprise Stakes at Leopardstown before finishing third in the Champion Stakes at Ascot on unsuitable heavy ground. This season, the son of High Chaparral has again been on the sidelines with injury, but, proved he goes well fresh last season. However, this will be a much more competitive affair to make his seasonal debut and could lack fitness to win the 2015 Prince of Wales’ Stakes.
The Grey Gatsby handed Australia a surprise loss last season in the Irish Champion Stakes and thrives racing over one and a quarter miles. He was second in the Dubai Turf in March at Meydan, however, was behind the ever improving Solow who is a strong favourite for the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal meeting. He then ran well below par in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh last month when finishing fourth. That was on ground that was probably was too soft, but, the son of Mastercraftsman has form to reverse with several rivals who will line-up in the Prince of Wales on day 2 of Royal Ascot.
Al Kazeem's racing story has been fairytale-like and shows the brilliance of his trainer Roger Charlton. After failing at stud, he took a while to bounce back to his best but certainly looked to have done so when running a bold second in last year's Champions Stakes, runner-up behind Cirrus Des Aigles in May and winning the Tattersalls Gold Cup in what was a bold and gutsy display. At seven, Al Kazeem continues to show his brilliance and won this race two years ago, but, he does not look the same horse as he did at the summit of his achievements.
All eyes will be on last year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome. Royal Ascot 2015 has been a long-term target for the son of Lucky Pulpit and horse racing fans all around the world will be intrigued to see how he runs. On his last start he was gunned down in the Dubai World Cup by the average Prince Bishop and it'll be the first time California Chrome will run on turf and you have to question whether he can make a successful switch from dirt.
