Horse racing value tips for the Channel 4 coverage from Newbury on Saturday.
It’s Ayr Gold Cup day this fine Saturday, however there is also a very competitive card at Newbury with a number of tight races where there is plenty of value to be had.
This Group 3 Duty Free Legacy Cup over 1m3f gets the competitive racing underway and I like the prospects of CUBANITA (8/1 William Hill) finding his form again this season. He ran a stunning race first time out at Newbury, defying the classy Noble Mission who has since tasted Group 1 victory. Ralph Becket’s charge ran poorly twice following that effort, something was clearly wrong with the gelding and he has been off the track since May. The long break will make no difference as the selection clearly goes best fresh and the trip should be perfect.
Hillstar is the clear threat in this race having finished second in all of his runs on home turf this campaign. He drops down another level here and should ask serious questions of the rest of his rivals.
The Group 2 Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes is contested over six furlongs for two-year-olds and Mark Johnston’s JUNGLE CAT (9/2 bet365) has been a consistent performer all season and looks excellent value. He finished third in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot and was only just beaten into second in the Gimcrack at York last time out. This colt is super consistent and has beaten a number of his opponents already this season.
Limato was an easy victor at Newbury last time out, ahead of Cotai Glory who was romping home at Doncaster before unseating his jockey last time. That form could be tough to beat, however this looks a very competitive field and at short odds he looks worth taking on.
