The Ballon D'or winner is also enduring his worst goal drought for four seasons – albeit a mere three games – and missed an uncharacteristic sitter at home to Deportivo at the weekend. There's no coincidence that this downturn in fortunes has coincided with the demise of his five year relationship with Irina Shayk, enough for the best of us to get the hump, so perhaps he deserves a bit of slack.
