Seattle Seahawks @ San Francisco 49ers betting tips: NFL picks and free bet tips for this weekend’s Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers match on Sunday 8th December.

This second matchup of the season between these NFC West foes was dubbed before the season as the two most exciting games of the year. To many, the 49ers and the Seahawks were and still are probably the two best teams in the NFL as they both possess elite defences and their offence is run by two young but extraordinarily talented quarterbacks in Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson.

Heading into this week’s clash Seattle lead the division by 3 games with an 11-1 record and a win over the 49ers at Candlestick park would see them clinch the NFC West win 3 games to spare.

The 49ers meanwhile have struggled for the first time under Jim Harbaugh and head into week 14 with an 8-4 record that should be enough to qualify for the playoffs as a wild card but is still far from the dizzying heights experienced during the first two years of the Harbaugh era.

As things stand heading into this weekend’s slate of games, the Seahawks possess the number 1 seed which would give them home field advantage through to the Superbowl which is a significant advantage considering the effects of the 12th man at CenturyLink Field.

The 49ers are currently clinging onto the 6th seed which means they will likely play their last ever game at Candlestick Park in week 17 as they will be on the road for the duration of their playoff run.

Russell Wilson has been the best quarterback in the NFL this season not named Peyton Manning and he is still only in his second season in the NFL. The numbers that Wilson has put up should make him one of the favourites for the end of season MVP award as he has piled up 2672 yards through the air to go along with the 456 he has picked up with his legs. His scrambles have led to 26 first downs which means that when Wilson is taking off, he is consistently extending his teams drives by picking up the first down. An impressive 32.5% of Wilson’s runs have resulted in first downs this season. Added to those numbers, Wilson has thrown for 22 touchdowns and rushed for a one which is impressive given that half of the Seahawks offence rest upon the production of running backs Marshawn Lynch and Robert Turbin who have both had good seasons contributing to the 3rd best rushing offence in the NFL by yards per game standards. To cap it all off for Wilson, he has a quarterback rating of 108.5 which is third in the league behind Peyton Manning and Eagles quarterback Nick Foles. Considering Wilson has a better rating than Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees at this stage of the season should be enough to convince you of just how special a quarterback Russell Wilson is at this early stage of his career.

The Seahawks defence has played a huge part in carrying the Seahawks to the top of the NFL standings with their backfield currently the very best in the league by a long way. The fearsome foursome led by Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor that has become known as the “Legion of Boom” are the best secondary in the league and are the main reason why Seattle has the best pass defence in the league as far as yards allowed per game is concerned. Earl Thomas and Richard Sherman each have intercepted 4 passes this season and are among the best ball hawks in the league. On the defensive line, Chris Avril has 7.5 sacks in the first 12 games the Seahawks have played this season. The 49ers will run the ball a lot this Sunday and it will be up to the front 7 of the Seahawks to ensure that the 49ers don't establish a rhythm running the ball early in the game.

The 49ers need to win this Sunday to remind the Seahawks and the rest of the NFL that are still a team to be feared come the New Year when post season play begins. Although the NFC West title is probably out of reach now, the 49ers could certainly do with a statement victory to set them up for the stretch run heading into the playoffs. The 49ers will need to ram the ball down the throats of the Seahawks early to set a nice rhythm for Frank Gore before trying to test the fearsome Seattle secondary that will be ready to pounce on any misplay. Anquan Boldin will need to use his exceptional strength to make plays against the physical Seattle secondary and he has shown this season that he has the ability to make game changing plays.
