Southampton are yet to win in the Premier League this season. They started promisingly with a decent away point at Newcastle United, but a home defeat to Everton and an unconvincing 0-0 draw away at Watford followed. Their poor form continued as FC Midtjylland beat them in the Europa League play off to put an end to the Saints’ European adventure.
Norwich however are playing better. They started with a home defeat to Crystal Palace but followed that up with an excellent win away at Sunderland and a point at home to Stoke City. I think the Canaries will take a few teams by surprise this season and it wouldn't be a shock if they take advantage of Southamptons’ loss of form and grab all 3 points in this one.
Much has been made of Norwich striker Lewis Grabban and his wish to move away, he’s been suspended by the club so he’ll be missing for this one. Gary Hooper looks to be on his way too so Ricky van Wolfswinkel may start and he’ll be looking to add to his goal against Rotherham United in the Carling Cup. I was tempted to tip the Dutchman to score in this one too but I’ve gone for man of the moment Nathan Redmond. Redmond has added so much more to his game under boss Alex Neil, his goalscoring rate has improved and he’s scored or assisted in every league game this season. The Norwich winger looks a decent proposition to score in the 90 minutes.
One thing Norwich haven’t been able to do so far this season is keep a clean sheet. While I’m predicting an away win I don’t think they’ll be too much in it. Southampton don’t concede many and I can see them getting on the score sheet in a low scoring game. My final prediction is both teams to score and over 2.5 goals.
