Southampton v Swansea Preview and Tips

The Saints welcome Swansea to St Mary’s on the back of an FA Cup exit but their league form is absolutely sublime. Swansea are still trying to adapt to life without Wilfried Bony and a win would really help to calm things down.

A 3-2 defeat at home to Crystal Palace saw Southampton go out of the FA Cup but they can now concentrate on their very real chase for a top four finish. With over half of the season gone they are 3rd, three points clear of Arsenal in 5th, a similar second half of the season would be more than enough to get them in to the top four and the Champions League.

Their Premier League form at present is excellent, Southampton are unbeaten in six with five wins and have beaten Newcastle, Man Utd, Arsenal and Everton in some tough looking games and so for our Southampton v Swansea prediction we have to back a home win.

They’ve lost just twice at St Mary’s all season and those to the two Manchester clubs. They’ve conceded just seven goals at home this campaign and five of them were in those defeats so they are a hard nut to crack.

Bony’s inevitable exit from Swansea has somewhat upset the apple cart, they lost 5-0 to Chelsea in their last league game and then crashed out the FA Cup at the hands of Championship side Blackburn. In fact in the league they are on a run of four without a win and have won just one of their last nine away from home.

As you may expect Southampton are favourites here at 8/13 with Betfred, the draw is 3/1 with Bet365 while an away win is available at 6/1 with Coral.

I fancy Southampton to do a job here and pick up another good home win but not at 8/13 for my Southampton v Swansea betting tips. Considering six of Southampton’s seven home wins have been to nil and they have conceded less goals than any team in the league, get on Southampton to win to nil at 7/5 with Coral. Bony will be a big loss for Swansea and I expect Southampton to take full advantage.

Staggeringly, at home this season, Southampton have yet to be behind at half-time, while Swansea have been behind just twice at the interval away from home. I expect a tight game with Swansea trying to keep things close early on, get on Draw HT/Southampton FT at 16/5 with Coral.
