2.45 Longchamp

Our first bet on the card comes in the Prix De L’Opera, a Group 1 race over 1m2f for fillies, and John Gosden sends over SULTANINA (13/2 Coral). She steps down in trip after failing to see out 12f at this course in September and the drop back down to 10f should suit. She proved her effectiveness on a firm surface over 10f after her win over Narniyn at Goodwood and should provide a bold show. Tarfasha is an interesting contender after her win in the Blandford Stakes and Shamkala looks to be a strong French contender.

3.30 Longchamp

Moving on to the highlight of the card and the world’s greatest horses have come to Longchamp looking to make history here. The Japanese have sent over three runners with Just A Way the likeliest of the trio to win if he is able to show his best over the longer trip of 1m4f. Of the English and Irish raiders, Taghrooda and Kingston Hill look the strongest challengers with the likes of Al Kazeem and Ruler Of The World already faltering in this race 12 months ago. The home team are headed by the impressive Ectot and unbeaten Avenir Certain but for me; the joker in the pack is PRINCE GIBRALTAR (33/1 Betfred). The Jean-Claude Rouget colt oozes class and is surprisingly a bigger price than expected, as he went close in the French Derby before going even closer in the Grand Prix De Paris. His impressive performances as a two-year-old are still fresh in the mind and he has an electric turn of foot which should see him to good effect if the contest turns into a sprint.

5.20 Longchamp

Last up is the Prix Du Cadran over the marathon distance of 2m4f. Not many of the runners have ever tried this trip before before and, despite being the ripe old age of eight, ALTANO (7/1 bet365) should be able to replicate last year’s win. He hasn’t had the greatest season but he is a game horse who will be plugging on when others have cried enough. This race looks a bit easier than last year’s renewal but some of the younger horses could make it a test. Pale Mimosa clearly has a chance if staying out the distance and Bathyrhon looks to be an obvious danger after his comfortable win in the Prix Gladiateur.
