Supreme Novices Hurdle Trial Betting Tip Sunday

The open Meeting gets underway this weekend at Cheltenham as the jump season really starts to heat up ahead of next year’s showpiece festival. I am going to preview what looks a very interesting Supreme Novices’ Hurdle Trial on Sunday’s card and offer a betting tip.

I am really looking forward to seeing one runner in this race on Sunday and could be a huge pointer for the festival. The Nicky Henderson trained West Wizard has only appeared once on a racecourse to date and that was a very impressive performance back in March when landing a bumper race at Kempton in his stride, landing it by an easing six length margin. It has been widely reported that he is the one to watch from the Henderson stable this year and as we know he has some cracking horses in his care so it must be a tip in itself. He is a short price for the race on Sunday but I can’t see past the four year old and will be marked up as the selection. He is around the 10/1 (various) mark for the Supreme Novice at the festival and if he goes in on Sunday then that could be a cracking price.

John Ferguson has a horse in the race called Sea Lord, who has notched up six wins from his last six starts so is coming into the race in great form. He is a group three winner on the flat and has been mightily impressive over hurdles in recent times so could be on to trouble the favourite, as could Garde La Victoire who is reported to be working well at home by Paul Nicholls who again has a strong hand in this division.

A final one to look at in the race maybe The Liquidator trained by David Pipe. He finished a very impressive fourth in the Champion Bumper at the Festival last year and was burdened with a penalty on hurdling debut and duly dispatched his rivals. He could be a good prospect for later on in the season, but this early on I don’t quite see him as a betting prospect yet.

All things considered, I know it is a short price, but West Wizard (6/4 with Sky Bet) is the one that all eyes will be turned too. Why not try him to beat Garde La Victoire in a forecast!
