Newbury E/W Lucky 15 Racing Tips

2:25 Newbury
The Grade 2 Denman Chase has been something of a graveyard for short-priced favourites; ironically, the great horse that the race is named after was twice defeated at odds-on in this contest. This year lacks a horse with that profile though, and it looks to be a wide open contest. A chance is taken on a form revival for TAQUIN DU SEUIL (9/2 Ladbrokes), who should be suited by the course (previous Grade 1 winner here) and the likely ground. Houblon Des Obeaux comes out best at the weights, but he might be inconvenienced by several potential front-runners and he can often find one too good.

3:00 Newbury
Mr Mole is likely to try and dictate from the front, and fellow JP McManus runner Uxizandre will not want this to be run slowly run afair, so a fast-pace looks guarenteed. That will play into the hands of Champion Chaser SIRE DE GRUGY (NAP) (10/11 Coral), and he can return from his layoff in style on route to defending his Cheltenham crown. Gary Moore’s stable star has been continually underrated, but that just makes him more attractive from a betting perspective, and this top-class two-miler can make it 8 wins from his last 9 starts.

3:35 Newbury
Weight has been a real stopper in this contest in recent times – no winner has carried more than 11st 2lbs since Essex in 2005 (although abandonments accentuate that trend). It looks likely to be broken this year, with a whole host of contenders towards the top of the weights. ACTIVIAL (8/1 Betfred) appeals most, with his mark of 143 looking well within reach. He’s open to bundles of improvement, having finished a good third in the Ladbroke on his seasonal reappearance, and this track should suit.

4:40 Newbury
The action is rounded off with a competitive Listed Bumper, which has thrown up some useful types in the past (including Al Ferof). The one that appeals most is favourite ALTIOR (11/4 Betfred), who returns from a 265-day break after bolting up on his racecourse debut. He could be anything, but looks a significant entry for Nicky Henderson, who also runs French recruit Buveur D’Air, who is feared most.
