Tottenham v Liverpool Betting Tips and Predictions

Sky Sports' first showing this 'Super Sunday' sees early Premier League pace-setters Tottenham welcome last season's runners-up Liverpool to White Hart Lane. With coverage underway from 13:30 GMT, tune in to catch your first glimpse of a certain Italian in line to make his debut, and have a punt on our free football betting tips.

With two league wins in the bag and no goals conceded Spurs' life has begun well for Mauricio Pochettino. Although Cynics will point to the fact Tottenham have not faced a 'big' team in the league or in Europe yet, the Argentine has got his team playing well in all areas of the pitch. Three of last season's much maligned marquee signings Eriksen, Lamella and Nacer Chadli were excellent in the 4-0 drubbing of QPR last weekend, as was Emmanuel  Adebayor who is looking sharp after fighting off a bout of malaria. Fair play to that man, that'll make you think twice before ditching five-a-side with a runny nose.

This weekend's opponents Liverpool started their season unconvincingly against Southampton, but still managed to pick up the three points. Last time out though, they were soundly beaten by Manchester City at The Etihad. Despite starting that game strongly, a lot of their excellent approach play was soaked up by a stern City defence, before yet another defensive mistake put them behind before half-time. Against weaker teams than City, Liverpool would have probably led that game at the break.

Obviously it's impossible not to mention last season's meetings between the two sides – with Liverpool winning both games at an aggregate on 9-0 – the burning question is, how much has changed since those games? Liverpool have obviously lost Luis Suarez – who was instrumental in both wins – but gained Mario Balotelli, Adam Lallana and Lazar Markovic. Whether any of those players will start on Sunday, only Brendon Rodgers will know. Tottenham on the other hand have a new manager, and new philosophy of football that has already hit the ground running. As previously mentioned, he also appears to have some supposedly star names hitting form and they have yet to concede a league goal.

Early prices for the match show very little between the two sides, with Spurs trading at a best price of 17/10 and Liverpool 9/5. The draw is on offer at 13/5 and could be a sensible shout for those of you who can't decide whether to jump of that fence. Nevertheless, I still can't get my head past last season's encounters. Liverpool went to Spurs and won 5-0, and I whilst I don't expect them to win by that margin again, I can't see that enough has changed to persuade me otherwise. At excellent outright odds of 9/5 with William Hill, back Liverpool to win on Sunday.

Moving into some different markets and given Liverpool's free-flowing attack and defensive frailties, this weekend's encounter immediately struck me as an excellent BTTS contender. However, at best this is available at a measly 11/20. Let me tell you, that is as short as they come. Nevertheless, whilst still on the same wavelength, considering the last three matches between the two sides have had over 3.5 goals, Coral are offering odds of 13/8 on that outcome this weekend. If there's an early Liverpool goal, I'd expect that to be a shoe-in.

Finally, for a little bit of a longshot and Liverpool's Raheem Sterling has been in excellent form for several months now. In a dynamic Liverpool attack you would expect him to cause plenty of problems down the right wing, and be quite the handful for Danny Rose at left-back. Therefore back Sterling to scoop the 'Man of the Match' award which is available at 15/2 with Betfred, along with Danny Rose to pick up the first card of the game at 12/1 with the same bookmaker.
