Tuesday’s Champions League Quarter Final Preview

Tonight sees the cream of European football take centre stage in Paris and Munich, as PSG, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Juventus compete for places in the semi-finals of the Champions League.  Both tonight’s matches are likely to be captivating sporting action of the highest order, and we bring you our views and best betting tips.

The French capital hosts arguably the tie of the round, as Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint German host Barcelona.  There is no doubt that the market favours Barcelona who are 3/4 to win at the Parc Des Princes, and that is perhaps unsurprising given their second-leg performance against Milan that booked their quarter-final place.  Barca were simply mesmerising at the Camp Nou when turning round the tie against Milan, and the football they played serves only as a reminder, if ever we needed one, that they are simply the best football team on the planet right now.

Despite PSG having had an easier path to the quarter final stage of the competition, it is dangerous to write-off the French side, who can be backed at a quite astonishing price of 4/1 for a home win.  Remember this is a side who have not tasted defeat at home in European competition in over six years, and who look well on the way to being crowned Ligue 1 champions.  Critics will of course point to the fact that the top French league is perceived as a lesser league to La Liga, but Barcelona ought to, and no doubt will be wary of the threat posed by PSG.  There is certainly mileage in opposing Barcelona, who have won only three of their last 14 away matches in the knockout stages of the Champions League, and so we will side with PSG.

In Germany, the Allianz Arena plays host to the first-leg of another mouth-watering tie as Bayern Munich welcome tournament dark horses Juventus.  Unsurprisingly Bayern are odds-on favourites to win tonight’s game, and after Saturday’s 9-2 demolition of Hamburg in the Bundesliga, it is not difficult to understand why.  There is no doubt that this Bayern side have the talent to go all the way in the Champions League this season, although Juventus will clearly have other ideas.  Antonio Conte’s side are undefeated in this season’s Champions League and they will relish the trip to Munich, where they will feel they can take something from the match.  As well as an excellent defence, Juventus possess a potent attacking threat and we should expect the Italians to seek a valuable away goal.  Given it is extremely unlikely that Bayern won’t find the net, a bet on goals looks like the best way to play this one.
