Saturday's horse racing fixtures give us another chance to get some winning horse racing tips this weekend and our best two bets come from Saturday's card at Newmarket.
Not the most inspired results for me last week with a non runner and an “also ran” but then racing is never easy to predict whatever some may claim – which is why we can still place bets and why bookmakers will take them!
This weekend we centre our attention on Newmarket (or headquarters as it is more commonly known, and a frankly awesome card of Group races plus one of the most competitive handicaps of the season with the two and a quarter mile Cesarewitch. With the kudos (or do I mean breeding value?) associated with such races, it is no great surprise that so many class animals have been attracted though as a proud Englishman (is that still allowed in this PC age?), I am rather fearful the majority of the prize money will be heading back to Ireland.
2.05pm – 7f Class 1 Dubai Challenge Stakes (Group 2) Betting Tip
Aiden O’Brien with his legion of blue bloods seems pretty intent on taking most of it and seems to have sensible chances in every race, but maybe we should limit our bets to just two of them at this stage? Darwin (11/4 Betfred) was a slight disappointment last time out when third over a mile at the Curragh but he looked as if the trip was one step too far, finishing one paced and lucky to hold on for third, but hopefully that will mean a better price this afternoon as he drops back to seven furlongs which will be a lot more suitable. His previous form over this trip makes much better reading where he saw off Gordon Lord Byron (who in turn won the Betfred Sprint Cup (Group One) and was then runner up to Moonlight Cloud last weekend at Longchamp), and a repeat of that run ought to be more than sufficient here.
3.50pm – 2m 2f Class 2 Betfred Cesarewitch (Heritage Handicap) Betting Tip
As for the Cesarewitch, it is not exactly unknown that I am sweet on the chances of Oriental Fox (12/1 Betfred) who hails from the Mark Johnston yard. A course and distance winner, his jockey described him as ideal for the race when winning last time out and as that was Johnny Murtagh, the big race specialist, I sat up and took notice! That was the son of Lomitas’ first attempt beyond two miles which seemed to paly to his strengths, and they seem pretty confident he is fit and well and capable of shrugging off his four pound winners penalty, though be warned – this is an ultra competitive race and anything could happen!
