After successfully tipping Silviniaco Conti to win the King George i’m looking to continue my good form over this weekend with two selections for Saturday!
The heavy rain, as it always does, has had an affect on racing and brought about some shock results so far over the Christmas period. In theory, I have a better idea of the ground ahead of today's racing (assuming an accurate description from the track that is), and once again I will revert to a couple of horses that I have strong hopes for.
Firstly, I am hoping that WELL REFRESHED (8/1 Betfred) will run as well as trainer Gary Moore thinks he will in the Welsh National at 2.35pm at Chepstow. Gary is a trainer I know well and an all round decent bloke, it is pretty rare for him to sound too bullish yet he happily admits that the trip, weight and ground should all be ideal. This nine year old ran a blinder last time out when third at Sandown and will hopefully prove good enough to finish placed at least.
With the highly competitive Welsh National covered, my second bet comes in the 12.25pm at Catterick, a two mile novice hurdle which seems likely to be run on heavy ground. Im very confident about the chances of horse called RAINBOW PEAK (13/8 BetVictor). This son of Hernando is partial to plenty of cut in the ground when raced on the flat, his biggest success so far was victory in the Group One Gran Premio Del Jockey Club at San Siro in 2010 on ground described as very soft. A slight concern would be the fact that he has had his problems and was only third in a Listed race when last seen. However, if John Ferguson has him fit enough then I’m confident that his class should shine through in a race that may not take too much winning.
