Best Horse Racing Bets for the Weekend – Looking over this weekend yet again the weather seems to be blighting the racing landscape with both Uttoxeter and Fontwell abandoned. Luckily for us, in terms of value on offer, it seems that the home of the National Hunt game is more than happy to oblige.
The main event at Cheltenham is the Cleeve Hurdle which sees the return to action of Big Buck’s (11/10 Coral). Sadly, I can't be tempted to open my wallet at any price as we have no real idea about his fitness levels. From the same stable, ROCKY CREEK (13/8 Stan James) runs in the Argento Chase due off at 2.25pm. I never pass over Champion Court (8/1 Betfred) lightly, and certainly not at Cheltenham, but I am still unconvinced he gets 3m which tips me in favour of the Nicholls charge if only just. My selection ran up a sequence last season before a one paced third at Aintree after trying to go through a fence instead of over it. He returned as well as ever with a second place at Newbury in the Hennessy despite being easy to back and looking badly in need of a run. Bound to strip fitter here, those holding ante post Gold Cup vouchers will need to see a win here – and if the vibes are correct, that is exactly what will happen.
My second selection comes in the form of a small punt on OUR MICK (8/1 bet365) in the 1.50pm. What I describe as a nearly horse, they have always thought so highly of him at the Donald McCain yard yet he flatters to deceive and hasn’t won a race since January 2012. Interestingly, they try first time blinkers here and drop him back in trip after a number of failures over 3m or thereabouts. His most recent of victories came over 2m4f and 2m5f on testing ground so I’m hoping that conditions will prove ideal.
