Our Editor Returns with his best World Cup bets for Sunday this time.

Ivory Coast v Japan 2AM GMT

You will have to be a brave soul for this one with a 2am start for Ivory Coast’s Group C clash with Japan. Group C is really tight if you ignore Colombia with all of Japan, Ivory Coast and Greece fancying their chances of progression.

Comparing these two sides they seem to have one thing in common – the amount of goals they see at both ends. Ivory Coast have the likes of Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba going forward but there is a lack of big names at the back with Kolo Toure the most noticeable. Their last seven matches have seen both teams score and just one of their last twelve.

Japan’s record isn’t much better, they have plenty of creative with the likes of Honda in their side and Shinji Okakazi had a great year for Mainz in Germany. Both teams have scored in five of their last six games and have kept just two clean sheets in their previous sixteen matches.

With neither side particularly strong at the back Evens looks a good price on both teams to score with Wiliam Hill.

Switzerland v Ecuador 5PM GMT

Both Switzerland and Ecuador will fancy their chances of getting out of Group E even with a top quality Spain side to compete with. Switzerland are currently the World Number 6 and have an experienced manager in Ottmar Hitzfield who has two Champions League trophies and multiple Bundesliga trophies to his name.

Switzerland come in to the World Cup having suffered just one defeat in 18 matches and came through qualifying unbeaten as well. They are a well organized and good side but this will be far from easy.

Ecuador’s form is mixed but there main issue is away form. They have won just one of their last eight away matches and in qualifying were unbeaten at home with five victories but failed to win away from home.

France v Honduras Betting Tips 8PM GMT

France are big favorites in Group E while Honduras are massive underdogs. France come in to the World Cup without star man Frank Ribery but with a cohesion they seemed to have lacked in recent years. They recently overcame Jamaica 8-0 in a friendly and will fancy a big win to open their World Cup campaign.

Honduras are very much one of the weaker sides at the World Cup – they recently drew 2-2 with the same Jamaica side France put 8 past. Israel and Turkey have both easily beaten them in recent weeks and they could be in for a long night against France.

France will more than likely win this match but finding value is the difficult bit. My pick here is Benzema to score and win. The Real Madrid man bagged an impressive 17 league goals this season and scored twice recently against Jamaica. If he starts, he is a good price to score and win at 11/8 with Ladbrokes.

Argentina v Bosnia Betting Tips 11PM

Finally, we go to one of the tournament favorites Argentina who take on a tough test in Bosnia. Argentina finished top of South American qualifying and are on a 5 match unbeaten run in which they have also kept 5 clean sheets.

Bosnia qualified ahead of Greece in their group and also don’t concede many, just 5 in 10 qualifiers. The two sides only met back in November and on that occasion Argentina ran out 2-0 winners with two goals from Sergio Aguero. That day it took Argentina until the 44^th minute to break Bosnia down and I can see them attempting to frustrate Argentina again here.
