World Cup 2014 Betting Tips: Group G

Germany national.jpg

Every World Cup needs a Group of Death and Brazil 2014 has Group G. Germany, Ghana, USA and Portugal will battle in out to progress to the next stage and we have some free World Cup 2014 Betting Tips.

Group G is probably the toughest group in the competition. With this in mind the World Cup 2014 betting odds for this group are a bit puzzling. Germany to qualify is a preposterously short 1/7 with William Hill, whilst Portugal to qualify are 1/2 with bet365. Ghana qualifying is 3/1 with betfred and USA to qualify is 16/5 with ladbrokes.

Let's take these teams in reverse order. The USA are the weakest side in the group but the boys in stars and stripes are hardly pushovers. The USA won't be a free scoring team (no team with Jozy Altidore up front would be) but they will be well organised and competitive with the likes of Tim Howard, Landon Donovan and Michael Bradley providing quality.

I see them upsetting the apple cart by snatching a result against one of the other more fancied teams. I don't see them qualifying but a third place finish is a possibility and is available at 7/4 with paddypower.

Next up are Ghana and Portugal. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that but for Christiano Ronaldo Ghana are the better side.

Ghana's starting 11 will feature the likes of Kevin Prince-Boateng, Asamoah Gyan, Andre Ayew, Emmanuel Agyemang, Kwadwo Asamoah, Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien. Essien may be past his prime but a spine of a team featuring the ex-Chelsea man alongside, Kevin Prince-Boateng and Juventus title winner Asamoah will compete with any side in the competition. Whilst forward options of Andre Ayew and Asamoach Gyan will cause plenty of problems for defenses.

Portugal meanwhile are a hard team to assess. Disappointing in qualifying the Iberian's qualified for the competition via the playoffs. Whilst it would be an exaggeration to say that Portugal are a one man Christian Ronaldo shaped band it is fair to say that the rest of the side isn't up to the Ballon D'or winners quality.

Football is a team game and making everything about Ronaldo is a risky strategy that I could see backfiring.

With this in mind lets look at the World Cup 2014 betting odds again. Ghana to qualify at 11/4 seems too good to ignore whilst Portugal's odds to qualify of 1/2 are far too short. Portugal to not qualify however, is 7/4 with Winner and that looks to be worth a punt. We've also put Germany in to our Group Stage accumulator for a bit more value.

We can now turn to Germany. The best team in the group and one of the top teams in the competition. Every spot in their provisional 27 man squad is full of quality. They may even be a shout for the whole tournament.

As much as I would love it to happen I can't see Germany not qualifying in fact if I had to guess I see them topping of the group with 7 points. The dual forecast of Germany and Ghana to qualify is 5/1 with Ladbrokes.

If you fancy a real gamble the group to finish in the following descending order is Germany,Ghana,USA, Portugal is 28/1 with Bwin.
