First up is two sides who have got to this stage without yet really impressing.

Argentina picked up 9 points in their group but rarely put in a great performance and needed extra time to get past Switzerland in the Round of 16. They were once again unimpressive and Angel Di Maria’s strike was just enough to see them through. Far too often in the group they relied on the very special talents of Lionel Messi and when he didn’t show up against the Swiss he struggled.

Belgium were many people’s pre tournament ‘dark horse’ but have yet to impress their fans. They are certainly well organized but have yet to demonstrate the sort of attacking play you would expect from a side with the likes of Eden Hazard and Kevin Mirrallas in the side. They eventually got past Tim Howard in the last 16 in extra-time and ran out 2-1 winners.

Neither side has particularly impressed going forward so far in this World Cup and Iran showed how easy it is to frustrate Argentina. Both sides drew their last 16 matches 0-0 and the enormity of what is at stake was clearly apparent. With the final just two games away I can see this being tight once again. This will rather be 0-0 or 1-0 either way in 90 minutes for my money so get on Under 1.5 goals at 2/1 with William Hill.

Holland v Costa Rica 9pm GMT

Pre-Tournament the odds on this match would have been heavily in Holland’s favor but due to how impressive Costa Rica have been there is a lot less in this now.

Costa Rica picked up 7 points in a very tough looking group and showed great resilience on ten men to get past Greece in the last 16 on penalties. By the end of Extra-Time they did look exhausted though and it will be interesting to see how much of a role this plays here.

I expect the Dutch to show their quality and get through in 90 minutes against a Costa Rica side who they won’t underestimate.
