Holland v Mexico 5pm GMT

The first of Sunday’s two matches looks the more exciting with one of the favourites for the tournament now Holland but Mexico’s final group performance against Croatia was a great claim of their potential.

Holland romped through a tricky looking Group B picking up 9 points against Spain, Chile and Australia in the process. They were brutal in their opening day demolition of Spain and impressed in the manner they beat a good Chile side 2-0 in the finale.

Mexico were impressive enough to only miss out on top spot in their group to Brazil and after a turbulent qualifying campaign their new manager has really got them playing well just in time for the tournament. They were just warming up as they overcame Cameroon before they deservedly drew with Brazil and beat Croatia to second spot by overcoming then in their last game.

Holland in another life may have met Brazil at this stage but now have a somewhat easier looking task against Mexico, not that it will be easy for them. Mexico have crashed out at the last 16 stage in the last 4 World Cups while Holland made the final four years ago so know how to get through this stage.

Greece v Costa Rica 9pm GMT

The less glamorous looking tie tomorrow night sees Greece take on Costa Rica.

Neither of these sides really expected to make it this far but now one of them will be in the Quarter-Finals. Greece were underwhelming for most of the group stages but a last minute Samaras penalty allowed them to pinch second place from Ivory Coast. They haven’t impressed yet but now is the perfect time to start doing so.

Costa Rica on the other hand have been very impressive, finishing their very difficult looking group of England, Uruguay and Italy on 7 points and in top spot. Everyone seems to be playing at their best for the Central American side and they will give Greece another tough test.

I don’t fancy this game to really inspire, Greece’s biggest strength comes in defending and Costa Rica conceded just once in the groups themselves. Greece will revert to their old tactic of keeping it tight at the back and trying to nick it 1-0. We could be in for a drab affair and I fancy under 1.5 goals at 16/11 with Ladbrokes.
