World Hurdle Betting Tips and Predictions for Cheltenham

Cheltenham Festival betting tips for the World Hurdle on Thursday 13th March 2014 (3.20pm) as Big Buck's looks to defend his crown, but who are we picking in our World Hurdle betting tips?

Big Buck’s was beaten on his racecourse reappearance in the Cleeve Hurdle but Paul Nicholls is buoyant about the superstar’s chances in the 2014 World Hurdle. The emergence of Annie Power this season posess a serious challenge to Big Buck's and his attempt to regain his staying hurdling crown at the Cheltenham Festival.

In the latest betting odds for the World Hurdle Big Buck's is the marginal favourite at 15/8 with Coral whilst Annie Power is currently top price 3/1 (William Hill) to win the contest.  After returning from an injury that ruled him out for over two years, the Paul Nicholls' trained superstar will be looking to reclaim his glory days of old in the World Hurdle.

Despite his brilliance, he is a horse who has only been seen once since a two year break and didn’t get home over the trip.  Undoubtedly he was not fully wound up for the Cleeve Hurdle and providing he returns to Cheltenham fully fit and wound up then his ability will ensure that he is difficult to beat.

With the uncertainty about Big Buck's we are siding with ANNIE POWER (9/4 with Bet365 NRNB) for our World Hurdle betting tip for the 2014 Cheltenham Festival; connections have still made no firm plans ahead of the Cheltenham Festival but with Mullins already having Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle and Quevega in the Mares' Hurdle the World Hurdle looks the appropriate target for Annie Power.

I’m of the firm belief that the 3m trip will prove ideal for this mare and she will be seen to best effect over the longer trip.  She travels with ease and does all her best work in the final furlongs of races.  With that in mind, I would be interested in backing her with the added safety net of Non-Runner No Bet.  Wherever she turns up at the Festival she is a fantastic horse and could well establish herself as a true superstar.  She still represents value and is out Cheltenham tip for the World Hurdle as long as you use Bet365’s non-runner no bet policy.

Two horses who represent both Jonjo O’Neill and JP McManus are the pair of More Of That (6/1 Stan James) and At Fishers Cross (6/1 Coral).  The former performed impressively at Cheltenham when beating Salubrious in the Relkeel Hurdle on International Day.

At Fishers Cross finished 2nd in Cleeve Hurdle and that instantly saw his price slashed from 16/1 to 6/1 for the World Hurdle.  At Fishers Cross won the Albert Bartlett last year but had failed to reproduce anywhere near that level of form this season before that run.

In terms of an each-way bet, RULE THE WORLD (8/1 BetVictor) was our ante-post World Hurdle betting tip at odds of 20/1 but his odds have since been slashed after a 7 ½ length victory at Naas in January. This Mouse Morris horse finished second in last year’s Neptune Novice Hurdle, losing out to The New One by only four lengths after suffering at the hands of his rival’s potent turn of foot.  This year he has contested some top quality races and showed his true ability last time out at Naas where he beat a field of 140+ rated horses easily whilst giving weight away to all bar one of his rivals.  His trainer stated that he would have been disadvantaged by the soft ground conditions and by the fact that he had to make the running.  All these factors emphasise the brilliance of his performance and considering the World Hurdle has been the plan for this horse from day one, he looks fantastic value for an each-way World Hurdle betting tip for Cheltenham.

It would be a fairy-tale story if Big Buck's were able to return to the Cheltenham Festival with a victory in the race he has made famous but our main World Hurdle selection is Annie Power, a horse who I believe has the perfect attributes for the race.
