Horse racing value betting tips for Day 1 of the York Ebor Festival on Wednesday.
The Ebor Festival is a highlight of the Flat season and plenty of the racing elite are scheduled to run at York this week with the opening day offering some fantastic racing.
We have a decent Acomb Stakes on our hands over 7f for 2yo and an impressive winner could be a serious player in next season’s 2,000 Guineas. Charlie Hills started the season unconvincingly however he's finally found his feet and his representative, DUTCH CONNECTION (12/1 bet365) looks to have each-way claims. The colt has continued to improve after every race and got off the mark in a solid maiden at Goodwood which he won quite convincingly. I'm a firm believer if a horse can handle the Sussex track then he should be capable of running well elsewhere and he should use his experience to see off his rivals here. The horse seems versatile ground wise and its interesting that William Buick has chosen to ride the selection over a couple of horses in the race that he has previously ridden.
The main threat comes from Basateen who was mightily impressive last time out at Doncaster. Nonetheless, this is a big step-up in class and the form of that race has yet to be franked so he’s worth taking on.
The feature race of Day 1 is the Group 1 Juddmonte International over 1m2f and previous course and distance winner MUKHADRAM (6/1 Ladbrokes) looks a solid each-way bet. The William Haggas gelding is one of the most consistent Group performers in racing and he looks to have every chance to continue his reliable form. The selection finally won his first top class race in the Coral Eclipse last time out, where he was given a superb front-running ride from Paul Hanagan to get the job done. It's likely he'll repeat his front-running tactics once more and, if handed an easy lead, could prove difficult to pass.
The obvious danger is the classy Australia who steps up out of his own age range on this occasion. He has had a good long break since his Epsom-Irish Derby double and on that basis is worth opposing for a spot of value. Another worthy entrant is Telescope who won the Great Voltigeur last season. He too looks opposable considering he has been seen to best effect over further and could well struggle over 10f.
